Have you ever wondered about the infrastructure of the internet? how your personal computer gets connected to the internet? The internet is basically a network of networks all coming together to form the internet, so when you log onto the internet you are also apart of this network. I personally use a modem which dials a special number through our telephone line which hooks up to our ISP (Internet Service Provider) this is connected to a POP (Point of Presence) which is where all local users connect. Through a T3 line the POP Connects to a NAP (Network Access Point) or if you are a LAN (Local Area Network) user it would connect to the NAP through a T1 line, this is because there is no controlling network but there are these NAP's that we connect to this helps us connect to the internet through a backbone. Most communication companies have their own dedicated backbone which connects users from the NAP to the actual internet and that's how the internet infrastructure works. All this sounds complicated but is really very simple and it all happens in the blink of an eye.

  1. Although these advances pose threats to our society, we are now a civilization that is technology orientated. As with any other revolution, mankind will evolve and adapt to it. The creases will iron out as time passes. The above is the reality of the situation, but personally I don't fancy the direction we're headed in.
